Triconex Unveils 4351A: Advanced Safety System Module for Critical Process Protection
Triconex, a leader in critical process safety and a part of Schneider Electric, has announced the launch of the 4351A, a high-performance safety system module designed for its Tricon CX platform. This advanced component is engineered to provide robust, fault-tolerant control for Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) in industries where failure is not an option, such as oil & gas refining, chemical processing, power generation, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
The 4351A module is integral to the Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) architecture of the Tricon system, where three isolated channels perform simultaneous execution and diagnostics. This design ensures that no single point of failure can compromise the safety function. The module serves as a specialized processor or communication interface, enabling complex logic solving, high-speed communication with other system parts, and reliable execution of safety shutdown sequences. Its design focuses on achieving high Safety Integrity Levels (SIL 3 as per IEC 61508/61511) with certified diagnostics and predictable response times.
«In high-hazard processes, the safety system is the last line of defense. Its components must be beyond reliable,» said a safety systems expert at Triconex. «The 4351A is engineered to this exacting standard. It provides the deterministic performance, comprehensive diagnostics, and certified architecture required to protect people, the environment, and capital assets with absolute confidence.»
Key Features and Benefits of the 4351A include:
  • Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) Architecture: Operates within a three-channel, two-out-of-three voting system to provide maximum availability and fault tolerance, ensuring continuous protection even during a hardware fault.
  • High-Performance Processing for Safety Logic: Executes complex safety logic with a deterministic scan time, enabling rapid response to process demands and ensuring that Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs) are performed within their required time constraints.
  • Advanced Diagnostics and Fault Reporting: Continuously performs online diagnostics on itself and its communication paths. Any discrepancy or fault is immediately reported to the system’s maintenance and engineering interfaces, supporting proactive maintenance and simplifying compliance reporting.
  • Certified for Safety Applications: Designed and certified for use in SIL 3 safety applications, meeting rigorous international standards for hardware fault tolerance, systematic capability, and diagnostic coverage.
  • Seamless Tricon CX Platform Integration: Fully compatible with the Tricon CX ecosystem, including engineering tools like TriStation 1131. It supports hot swap replacement in many configurations, allowing for maintenance without taking the safety system offline.
The Triconex 4351A safety system module is available now for integration into new safety system deployments and for modernization projects within existing Tricon installations. It represents a core technological building block for engineers and safety professionals tasked with designing and maintaining the highest integrity safety systems for the world’s most critical industrial processes.
