GE Enhances Relay Automation with 531X307LTBAFG1 Programmable Logic Module
GE Grid Solutions has announced the 531X307LTBAFG1, an advanced programmable logic and control module for its Multilin family of protective relays. This high-capacity expansion module is engineered to deliver enhanced local intelligence and sophisticated automation capabilities directly within feeder and motor protection relays, enabling customized control sequences, complex interlocking, and advanced system integration without the need for external hardware.
Designed as a robust co-processor for compatible Multilin relay platforms, the 531X307LTBAFG1 significantly expands the relay’s internal processing power and configurable I/O points. It executes user-defined logic written in intuitive, relay-oriented programming environments, allowing for the implementation of site-specific automation schemes such as automatic transfer schemes (ATS), load shedding, capacitor bank control, and custom alarm/event handling. This integration streamlines panel design and improves system response times.
«Modern protection systems must be both guardians and intelligent operators of the electrical network,» said a senior engineer at GE’s Protection & Control division. «The 531X307LTBAFG1 module is purpose-built to add that layer of intelligent operation. It empowers our relays to execute complex, deterministic logic locally, reducing wiring, eliminating external PLCs, and creating a more responsive and integrated protection and control solution.»
Key Features and Benefits of the 531X307LTBAFG1 include:
-
High-Performance Logic Engine: Features a dedicated processor for executing complex user-defined logic, function block diagrams, and sequences independently and at high speed, ensuring timely control actions.
-
Extensive Configurable I/O: Provides a substantial number of additional digital inputs and programmable Form-C relay outputs, enabling the relay to directly interface with a wider array of field devices, other relays, and plant control systems.
-
Deep Integration with Relay Data: Allows user logic to directly access and utilize real-time relay data—including measured values (current, voltage, power), status of protection elements, and internal flags—enabling logic decisions based on the complete electrical context.
-
Simplified System Architecture: Consolidates protection, metering, and control functions into a single device, reducing panel footprint, simplifying wiring, lowering hardware costs, and centralizing diagnostics and maintenance.
-
Flexible Programming and Configuration: Programmed using GE’s EnerVista or other dedicated software suites, which offer user-friendly environments for developing, testing, and downloading logic, making customization accessible to protection engineers.
The 531X307LTBAFG1 programmable logic module is available as a configurable option for new Multilin relay orders and as a field-installable upgrade for many relays already in service. It is a key enabler for engineers designing advanced, automated electrical distribution systems in data centers, industrial plants, and infrastructure projects.
